Shibui Studio Art Gallery is currently accepting exhibition proposals on a rolling basis, reviewing submissions periodically through the year. For exhibitions being held during March-May 2023, the deadline to submit your proposal is February 15, 2023.
Who Art You?
An early-career or emerging artist living or working within a 60-mile radius.
Any existing works must have been completed within the last three years in order to be considered.
Your artistic practice is the primary goal for your long-term career.
You intend to use the artist incubator lab to help develop your artistic career.
You are ambitious, experimental, and dedicated to your art and growth as a professional artist.
Contemporary artists are invited to propose a solo exhibition to take place in the SSAG gallery space. Proposals are accepted through an open call and selected by guest jurors, in consultation with Shibui Studio Art Gallery. The exhibitions selected for SOLO EXHIBITS 2023 will take place across multiple exhibition seasons, rather than happening simultaneously. They will last 6-8 weeks and take place between March and December of 2023.
Artists are encouraged to propose new bodies of work, installations, or projects and to consider the available exhibition space in their proposal.
The exhibition space is approximately 400 square feet. Works in all media will be considered. The gallery management will oversee artwork while it is on display in the Shibui Studio Art Gallery. Any sales, artist pays a 35% commission fee to the gallery.
Artists may submit proposals for exhibitions by collectives or other collaborative duos or groups of up to three (3) artists.
Artists who have participated in SSAG 2022 shows can enter. However, they cannot submit any works that have been previously shown at the gallery.
REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS
We recommend you have all your documents and images/samples prepared ahead of filling out the submission form.
Artist Statement (1 page max; must be PDF or word document)
CV/Resume (3 pages max; must be PDF or word document)
Artwork sample images (minimum of 5 images to be uploaded in the submission form as .jpg or .png. can include a combination of previous work along with drawings, sketches, or preliminary documents related to the proposed project or exhibition. )
Audio or video samples if proposing to add any audio or video to your plans, a maximum of three samples that should be submitted as clips of no more than three minutes (mp3 or mp4). The maximum file size is 100mb. If you have any issues with the file size limit, please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org.
When filling out the Submission Form for Proporsal, you'll be asked to describe what you plan to do, how you will do it, and what you hope to accomplish with the show. Include information in your proposal about how this project or body of work is well-suited to the gallery. SSAG encourages proposals for exhibitions of new work or new projects conceived specifically for the gallery space.

The terms of the exhibition dates will be agreed by both parties before moving forward with deliveries. The accepted artist must deliver the artwork to Shibui Studio Art Gallery according to the agreed dates and will be responsible for collecting any works that are unsold. If your work(s) are selected, SSAG reserves the exclusive right to sell the artwork during the course of the exhibition, and for an additional 30 (ninety) days after the gallery exhibition closes via the online exhibition and any other sales platforms of the gallery. All artwork must be for sale. Any work marked POR (Price on Request) or NFS (Not For Sale) will not be eligible for entry into the exhibition. All artwork must be signed or include a certificate of authenticity, framed (if relevant) and ready to hang, labeled on the back with your name and title of the artwork, and year created.
